Rebekah Gaillard is an artist and creative director who uses photography to paint vivid, thought-provoking, and emotionally expressive images that help her to make sense of her personal experiences. She derives inspiration from music, fashion, and her cultural identity as a Black, immigrant woman. Beyond creating beautiful works that inspire dialogue, Rebekah also seek to reframe the role of photography in the fine arts world. With the emergence of smart phones and applications that have put sophisticated image editing tools into the hands of millions, photography continues to be criticized as an illegitimate or primarily commercial artform. Rebekah aims to demonstrate, through mastery of artistic elements like light, form and color, that photography can be just as sophisticated as painting, ceramics, and other visual artforms.
Rebekah has exhibited her work in group shows in Los Angeles, Atlanta, and Indianapolis and held her first solo exhibition of photography in 2023 at The Michael O’Brien Gallery Phoenix in Indianapolis—entitled Teardrop on my Lens, Again. In 2019, Rebekah co-curated an all-women art show in Los Angeles with the aim of celebrating the often overlooked contributions of women to the visual arts field. Rebekah is a highly sought after photographer and creative director for private clients, emerging brands, and large corporations, including Amazon, the National Association of Black Accountants (NABA), and Mellowhype. Rebekah’s work has been recognized by The Artist Gallery Awards, Black Women Photographers, and has been featured in multiple digital publications, including CanvasRebel Magazine.
